Running is one of the easiest ways for anyone to get into a healthy lifestyle. All it takes is a good pair of running shoes, a couple of hours, and a conducive environment, and you’re good to do.
We had our first ever fun run which is the most attended event for families. A charity event intended to help our partner institutions in Papua and at the same time, promote healthy living through exercise. This is also our way of supporting the Asian Games 2018.
Here are 5 benefits of joining a fun run:
Good for the mind and body. Running is good for the body because it strengthens your bones and your muscles. It exercises your lungs and boosts your immune system. Running also helps you become more mentally active. This means you are better able to retain information and be active learners whether in school or in work. This is the perfect 2-in-1 combination.
Promotes family bonding and friendship. Depending on who you want to run with, you will have the time of your life marathoning with your family or friends. With your family, this is a great bonding activity to add to the usual ones—Sunday lunches or dinners, watching a movie, or going to vacation. With your friends, a marathon is surely an Instagram-worthy event in your life. The more quality time you spend with your family and friends, the closer you all become.
Teaches discipline and hard work. When you join a fun run, you have to wake up early. Some fun runs start as early as 4AM, so you have to wake up really early. You also have to train for a marathon because you cannot simply wake up one day and realize you want to run. There are a lot of values we can take away from running—the value of hard work, perseverance, and determination.
Meet new people. Running gather like-minded people for a common cause. Most fun run activities has an advocacy they support. You can meet a lot of new people here and bond with them over the same things. You will also be surprised on how important some causes are to many people.
Help those in need. Aside from strengthening your body and boosting your mental health, you will also help a charity or an organization when you join one of these events. That rather feels good, right? Many of these fun runs are actually organized by organizations and charity institutions with causes ranging from ending child hunger to raising funds for breast cancer awareness.
